Export procedures

Export customs declaration, exit visa and management of EX1, EUR.1 and ATR documents for goods leaving the Port of Bari to non-EU countries.

Customs export is the procedure that accompanies the departure of goods from the European Union territory to a non-EU country. At the Port of Bari we manage the entire cycle on behalf of the exporter: export customs declaration, exit visa upon shipment, issue of certificates of origin needed to benefit from preferential tariffs in destination countries, and archiving of the exit proof for VAT purposes.

When you need it

Every sale to a customer outside the EU — Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Turkey, Russia, China or any other destination — requires an export declaration. This applies both to full containers shipped on the Port of Bari's roll-on/roll-off services, to groupage cargoes, and to shipments leaving via coastal shipping to non-EU countries. FCA, FOB or CIF deliveries from commercial contracts with non-EU customers also require the full customs procedure to justify VAT non-applicability on export.

How we operate at the Port of Bari

We receive from the client a proforma or final invoice, packing list and transport document, and prepare the EX declaration by submitting it through AIDA with the correct combined nomenclature code. We handle classification, the issue of EUR.1, ATR or Form A certificates at the Bari Customs office where applicable, and the accompaniment of goods from the terminal gate to shipment.

When the ship or ferry actually departs, we obtain from Customs the telematic exit visa that closes the procedure and provides the exporter with legal proof of departure from EU territory — essential documentation for VAT non-applicability under article 8 of Italian Presidential Decree 633/72.

Documents required

  • Commercial invoice — complete with Incoterms, currency, detailed goods description.
  • Packing list — package count, weights and dimensions for each load unit.
  • Transport document — Bill of Lading or carrier's booking note.
  • Any licenses or authorizations — for dual-use, military or controlled goods (e.g. EU embargoes).
  • Supplier's declaration — when EUR.1 or ATR certification on preferential origin is required.

Timing & operation

For standard shipments the export declaration is ready within a few hours of receiving the documents. The exit visa is issued automatically by AIDA at the moment the ship departs; in case of controls or non-updated status, we intervene directly with the customs office to unblock the procedure. We operate during Bari Customs Territorial Operating Section hours, with availability for urgent exports by appointment.
